Armin Salek

AKINS HIGH SCHOOLTEACHER OF THE YEAR

(Teacher of the Year is voted by the entire campus; Must have a minimum of 3 years at the campus)

Armin Salek is a third year teacher at Akins High School and is an Austin ISD graduate. After earning a bachelor of arts from The University of Texas, he attended the University of Houston Law Center where he began his work as a law instructor. Mr. Salek co-founded the first high school legal aid clinic in the country (Eagle Aid) with his law interns, and has helped provide free legal services to the Akins community. He is also the coach of the two time defending Central Texas mock trial champions. His mock trial team will travel to the mock trial national finals as one of three schools to represent Texas at the competition.

Ms. Leslie Botello is one of Biology Pre-AP Teacher for the ECHS Academy at Akins High School. She is very grateful for the opportunity to work with such a wonderful bunch of kids, co-workers, and administration.  She is a first year teacher and has been blown away by the level of appreciation that this district focuses on for teachers!  Ms. Botellos says, "This has definitely been a memorable first year of teaching for sure, many highs and quite a few learning moments as well, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Thank you Akins High School for this awesome experience!".
