Dear W. Charles Akins Early College High School Community. It is with great pride and excitement that I am able to reintroduce myself as the Interim Principal of W. Charles Akins Early College High School. I am honored to serve in this role and to work alongside such a dedicated team of educators, students, families, and community partners.
As I embark on my 18th year in education, I reflect on the experiences that have shaped me as an educator. I have had the opportunity and privilege of serving in various roles- from classroom teacher to instructional leader - and every step of the journey has strengthened my belief in the power of public education. I began my teaching career as an intervention teacher and moved to teach U.S. History and A.P. Government. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential.
As Interim Principal, my priorities are clear: to ensure a safe and welcoming school environment, to increase academic rigor and excellence, and to continue building strong relationships between home and school. I firmly believe that collaboration with families is essential to student success, and I am committed to maintaining open lines of communication and trust.
I look forward to meeting you, learning more about your hopes for our school, and working together to make this school year one of growth, achievement, and connection. Thank you for the opportunity to serve this incredible school community. Please do not hesitate to reach out. I welcome your ideas, feedback, and your partnership.
With appreciation and enthusiasm,
Carman DeLeon-Wissel
Interim Principal
