PTECH - Real Estate (Associate's Degree) Program

In 2020-2021, Akins Early College High School and the Austin Board of Realtors (ABoR) started a real estate program for students interested in becoming certified agents before they graduate from high school. This is a great opportunity for students to become certified agents in a very demanding housing market. Students in the program will take dual credit courses at Austin Community College.

School's Mission with the Real Estate Program

Akins Early College High School's mission is to provide students with an education that begins in 9th grade, continues through high school completion with a high school diploma, and culminates in the attainment of an Associate's Degree through Austin Community College, allowing students to pursue post-secondary degrees and/or real estate careers. The program also includes authentic work experience designed to prepare students for positions in the real estate industry.

"What is Work-based Learning?": Work-based Learning Experiences are a part of the PTECH experiences. Students in the PTECH programs will experience hands-on and job-related lessons. Students in the Real Estate PTECH Program at Akins ECHS have visited construction sites (including housing projects and new schools), mini-conferences and workshops with our partner (Austin Board of Realtors), and hybrid lessons with industry experts. Students have attended problem-solving sessions, discussions, and panels related to the many aspects of the real estate program. Focusing on skills-based learning, students reflect on their observations, ask questions about changes in the industry, and complete mini-projects describing what they learn and how it applies to their futures. Our partners, ABoR and ACC, work with students to prepare them for college, careers, and beyond.

History of our Program: Starting in 2020-2021, Akins Early College High School and the Austin Board of Realtors (ABoR) will start a real estate program for students interested in becoming certified agents before they graduate from high school.  This is a great opportunity for our students in a very demanding housing market.  Students will be taking dual credit courses at Austin Community College. The Early College High School program at Akins High School was established in the 2019-2020 school year as the school's 7th Academy.  It provides an opportunity for students to complete up to 60 hours of transferable college credit while in high school at NO COST to the student or family.
