We are delighted to officially announce the appointment of Ms. Carman De Leon as the permanent principal of Akins ECHS, effective April 21, 2026. A Meet and Greet is on Tuesday, May 05, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Akins' Theater. Here is the letter from Austin ISD:

Dear Akins Early College High School Faculty, Staff, Students, and Parents/Guardians,

We are delighted to officially announce the appointment of Ms. Carman De Leon as the permanent principal of Akins ECHS, effective April 21, 2026. 

With nearly two decades of dedicated service in education, Ms. De Leon brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of student success. She has served as a teacher at both Bowie High School and Del Valle Early College High School before transitioning into leadership as an Assistant Principal at Akins ECHS. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Texas State University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Concordia University.

Ms. DeLeon-Wissel brings a deep commitment to Akins ECHS and a true passion for seeing every student succeed, both in the classroom and in life. As a leader, she believes in students' potential and holds high standards for learning to ensure everyone is prepared for the future. She is dedicated to creating a safe, positive, and focused school environment where students feel supported and teachers are empowered to do their best work.

By building strong partnerships and opening new doors for students, Ms. DeLeon works hard to make sure the Akins community has the resources it needs to thrive. She is a resilient leader who isn’t afraid to tackle tough challenges, always keeping the best interests of her community at the heart of her decisions. Her collaborative spirit and energy ensure that the future of Akins ECHS is bright, steady, and full of opportunity for every student. We look forward to a bold and ambitious future under her continued leadership.
