Aerospace Engineering

In the Aerospace Engineering pathway, students explore the fundamentals of atmospheric and space flight.

As students explore the physics of flight,

  •  Students bring the concepts to life by designing an airfoil, propulsion system, and rockets.
  •  Learn basic orbital mechanics using industry-standard software.
  •  Explore robot systems through projects such as remotely operated vehicles.

Every year students have the opportunity to participate in the Systems Go Program. Young people from across Texas launch their student-built rockets over one mile high and beyond the speed of sound! In May 2019 both of Akins' rockets launched perfectly. They accelerated quickly from the launch rail, with little spiraling, the parachutes deployed at the preset height, and rockets were recovered within a 100 yards of the launch rail. The electronics package was able to be quickly analyzed and various performance characteristics were downloaded such a velocity, pressure, and G force for future study.
